Lady Matadors sweep Saturday doubleheader, take 3 of 4 on the road at Central
COOLIDGE, Ariz. - Lady Matadors sweep Saturday doubleheader at Central Arizona with clutch play from Rauni Gallegos in game one and a standout performance from Analy Trejo in game two.
GAME ONE
Rauni Gallegos drove in four runs on three hits to lead Arizona Western College Matadors past Central Arizona Vaqueras 8-4. Gallegos singled in the fourth scoring two, singled in the second scoring one, and singled in the sixth scoring one.
Alissa Pinon, Gabby Weisser, and Aaliyah Soderlund at the bottom of Arizona Western College Matadors's lineup combined for eight of the team's 15 hits in their victory. They scored five runs and drove in three.
Central Arizona Vaqueras opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. Central Arizona Vaqueras first got on the board when Kiki Garcilazo singled, scoring one run.
Arizona Western College Matadors jumped back into the lead in the top of the second inning after Soderlund grounded out, Weisser laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Gallegos singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Autumn Arriola stepped in the circle first for Arizona Western College Matadors. The pitcher gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out one and walking four. Brianna Wunderle stepped in the circle first for Central Arizona Vaqueras. The hurler gave up three hits and three runs over two and one-third innings, striking out one and walking two. Brooklyn Cann appeared in relief for Arizona Western College Matadors.
GAME TWO
Analy Trejo drove in four runs on two hits to lead Arizona Western College Matadors past Central Arizona Vaqueras 11-2 on Saturday at Central Arizona College. Trejo doubled in the fourth scoring two, hit a solo home run to left field in the first scoring one, and hit a sacrifice fly in the third scoring one.
Arizona Western College Matadors scored six runs in the fourth inning on the way to victory. Gabby Weisser hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, Trejo doubled, scoring two runs, and Alana McDonnell singled, scoring one run.
Arizona Western College Matadors opened the scoring in the first after Trejo hit a solo home run to left field.
A sacrifice fly by Trejo extended the Arizona Western College Matadors lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning.
Jessica Smith led things off in the circle for Arizona Western College Matadors. The pitcher gave up three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out two and walking none. Jayden Throgmorton stepped in the circle first for Central Arizona Vaqueras. The right-handed pitcher surrendered six hits and eight runs (two earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking none. Brooklyn Cann appeared in relief for Arizona Western College Matadors.
