Manga's hat-trick propels Matadors past Southwestern College
YUMA, Ariz. - The Arizona Western men's soccer team hosted Southwestern College out of Chula Vista, California at Matador Field for the first in recent memory in a non-conference match Saturday Night. Matador's Enzo Manga put Arizona Western on the board first with a goal in the 39th minute, assisted by Aiki Sadaoka. Southwestern tied the score in the second half in the 63rd minute off a corner kick with the goal awarded to Issac Torres, assisted by Daniel Gutierrez. After a water break timeout for both teams and under 20 minutes to play, again the combo of Sadaoka and Manga put Arizona Western back in front. Manga netting the header in the 71st minute. Moments later, off a penalty kick from Jackson George, it was Manga again with the header in the 74th minute, caping off a three-goal night and lifting Arizona Western to a 3-1 victory.
"They're a very good team and a good representative of the CCC2A, they gave us all we could handle, and it was tight there until the end," Arizona Western head coach Kenny Dale said. "Enzo Manga had a great night and we've been waiting for that for quite a while from him, so we're excited about that."
With the score tied at one midway through the second half, both teams took a water break. During the timeout, Dale preached to his team, 20 minutes, we've got minutes.
"There was a sense of urgency," Dale said. "Sometimes young players can't find a sense of urgency before a game, or at halftime until they are facing adversity. Then they raise their level. It's not uncommon at all. I'm glad we got it done."
With the win, Arizona Western improves to 6-1 on the season. They'll be back in action on Tuesday, September 23rd when they travel to the College of Southern Nevada for a conference match.
