Soulas' career night leads Lady Matadors past Vaqueras
COOLIDGE, Ariz. - The Arizona Western women's basketball team (12-8, 5-1) delivered a dominant offensive performance in a crucial ACCAC conference rivalry, powering past Central Arizona College 83-69 in Coolidge on Wednesday night. The Matadors surged away with a high-octane fourth quarter, fueled by a career night from Garance Soulas and elite team shooting.
Garance Soulas headlined the evening with a spectacular career high 33-point outing, connecting on13 of 17 shots from the field and 4 of 6 from three-point range in 39 minutes. The freshman guard set the tone early and closed strong, pacing the Matadors' offensive explosion. Soulas' previous career high was 20 points against New Mexico Junior College on November, 6th, 2025.
The opening quarter set the stage for a tightly contested battle, with both teams trading baskets and Central Arizona holding a narrow 23-21 lead after 10 minutes. Arizona Western responded in the second quarter, as Soulas drained a key three-pointer with 47 seconds left in the half to give the Matadors a 37-36 edge at halftime.
Coming out of the break, Arizona Western continued to execute with precision. Mable Doumbia extended the lead late in the third quarter with a timely three-pointer, helping the Matadors hold a 58-55 advantage entering the final frame. In the fourth, the Matadors unleashed their best basketball of the night—Kimora Jenkins hit a deep three to push the lead to 63-55, and Chen Pan sealed the win with a clutch three-pointer that made it 78-63. Arizona Western outscored Central Arizona 25-14 in the final quarter and shot 50.8 percent from the field for the game.
Mable Doumbia posted a double-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists, while Chen Pan delivered 15 points, 4 steals, 2 assists and 1 block. Kimora Jenkins narrowly missed her own double-double, finishing with 11 points and 9 rebounds, along with 4 assists.
