Matadors three pronged attack secures win over Southern Nevada, share of ACCAC title

YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western College men's basketball (21-7, 11-2 ACCAC) delivered an emphatic 93-81 victory over College of Southern Nevada (14-13, 5-8) on Saturday, clinched at least a share of the ACCAC regular season title.

The Matadors took charge early, dictating the pace with a relentless attack inside and a suffocating rebounding effort that set the tone for the afternoon. Arizona Western built a double-digit lead in the opening half, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and pushing the tempo to keep the Coyotes on their heels. By halftime, the Matadors had established a comfortable 45-34 advantage. Southern Nevada mounted several pushes in the second half but never threatened to erase the deficit, as Arizona Western matched every run with timely baskets and continued dominance in the paint, ultimately matching CSN's 47-point second half to seal the win.

The Matadors finished with three players scoring over 20 points. Illiam Fevry powered the offense with a career and game-high 29 points on a blistering 14-of-20 shooting, adding three rebounds and hitting one three-pointer. Fevry's previous career high was 24 points which he scored three days prior in Arizona Western's loss to Cochise College on Wednesday. Marsai Mason imposed his will in the paint, posting a yet another double-double with 27 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks while sinking 10-of-14 from the line and swiping two steals. Matt Anglo kept the tempo high, scoring 21 points on 10-of-15 shooting while distributing five assists and limiting himself to just two turnovers in 32 minutes. Paora Winitana anchored the team defensively and on the glass, hauling in 10 rebounds, dishing out six assists and collecting three steals.

"I've been improving since the beginning of the season," Illiam Fevry said. "Coach Isaacs has been giving me more opportunities and now I feel more confident."

That confidence and continual improvement showed throughout the lineup, helping Arizona Western deliver in the biggest moments. The Matadors shot an impressive 49.4 percent from the field, capitalizing on their inside presence and fast-break opportunities. While the Coyotes' bench outscored Arizona Western's reserves, the Matadors' starting unit proved overwhelming, with three players breaking the 20-point barrier. Despite committing 16 turnovers, the home team-maintained control throughout, using physicality and execution to dominate the game's critical moments.

"We had a couple of rough, eye-opening days," Matador head coach Kyle Isaacs said. "Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning. We really lost our way and lost our toughness. Going back to our loss at Cochise, give them credit, they made 16 three pointers that night. I was really proud of how tough and physical we came out in this one. We were down late in the second half, came back, rallied and all the credit goes to our dudes."

Arizona Western then received a gift from Cochise College as the Apaches defeated Eastern Arizona 76-71 on Saturday afternoon, giving Arizona Western a two-game lead over Eastern Arizona in the ACCAC standings with two games remaining in the regular season. Arizona Western now has at least a share of the conference regular season title and can win it outright on Wednesday if they can defeat Yavapai on the road.

"Two big games to end the season," Isaacs said. "Yavapai on Wednesday and then our conference rival Eastern Arizona next Saturday. Looking forward to playing our best basketball here at the end of February and into early March."
