YUMA, Ariz---Tyra McKenzie’s goal in the 81st minute tied the match that would eventually end in a 1-1 draw as the Arizona Western College Lady Matadors (0-2-1) opened their home schedule against the Paradise Valley Pumas (1-2-1) Saturday at the Matador Soccer Field.
McKenzie’s goal was the first of the year and helped the Matadors break onto the scoreboard in a nationally ranked matchup of the #11 Pumas and #12 Matadors.
Paradise Valley struck first midway through the first half on Justine Cardwell’s shot from the top of the box.
The team’s battled in the midfield for much of the second half before the Matadors were able to break through to tie the match.
Neither team was able to get a clean look in either overtime period as the match ended at a 1-1 draw.
Next up for the Matadors is another home non-conference tilt with an ACCAC opponent as they will square off against South Mountain at 4:00pm.
Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma.
