WSOC: Mats Edge Mesa for Road Win

MESA, Ariz---Two goals from Freshman Karen Rivas were enough to get the Arizona Western Lady Matadors (9-3-2 overall, 5-1-1 ACCAC) back in the win column with a 2-1 victory over the Mesa Thunderbirds (8-6-1 overall, 4-4 ACCAC) Saturday night.

The freshman forward notched her third multi-goal performance on the season, giving her ten total goals on the year.

Airlin Chavarin assisted on the first goal for her first collegiate point while Elizabeth Ephraim added to her conference leading assist total with her 16th of the season.

Melanie Yanez made eight saves in net for the Lady Matadors to help secure the conference road win. The win keeps the Lady Matadors in third place in conference behind the Cochise Apaches and the Pima Azetecs.

The Matadors are back home for Sophomore night on Thursday, when they host conference leading Cochise at 4:30pm on the Matador Soccer Field in Yuma.
