GLENDALE, Ariz---A dozen goals made for the Arizona Western Lady Matadors (7-2-2 overall, 3-0-1 ACCAC) ninth straight match without a loss in a 12-0 win over the Glendale Gauchos (0-11 overall, 0-5 ACCAC) Thursday afternoon.
The Matadors gained an early advantage just three minutes in when Elizabeth Ephraim notched her first assist of the match by setting up Linda Obare for an early goal.
As has been the case this season, the Matadors found their rhythm with goals bunched up over a twelve minute stretch. Ephraim found the net in the 21st minute before Karen Rivas scored three goals in three minutes to extend the Mats lead to 5-0.
Vera Asare added her first tally minutes later and Jalyssa De Francia followed shortly after. Ephraim struck again just before the half.
The Mats added to the 8-0 half time lead on Tyra McKenzie's strike in the 62nd minute. Asare scored the next two, while Rivas added the final score in the 85th minute.
It is the second four-goal game for the freshman Rivas, who also tallied an assist.
Ephraim had two goals and added two more assists (stretching her league leading total to 15) and pushing her point total to 31 on the season.
The Matadors will put their nine match unbeaten streak on the line Saturday when they return home to Yuma to host Phoenix College at 4:30pm on the Matador Soccer Field.
Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma.
