Matadors fight to draw with Mesa

MESA, Ariz--- The Arizona Western Matadors (7-3-1 overall, 2-2-1 ACCAC) were evenly matched with the Mesa Thunderbirds (4-6-2 overall, 2-2-2 ACCAC) on Tuesday evening as the game ended with a 3-3 tie.
Mesa scored the first two points of the night when the Lady Mats conceded a goal in the 6th minute and the 17th minute.
The Mats turned the game around when they scored three goals in the first half to gain the lead 3-2. The first goal for the Mats was made by Diana Sanchez with an assist by Tessa Smith. With less than five minutes left in the half, the second and third goals were both made by Lirios Alarcon with assists by Jaeda Centeno and Diana Sanchez.
After a long delay due to lighting, the Matadors started the second half constantly on the attack and had multiple opportunities to score, but were not able to capitalize.
Mesa scored in the 57th minute to tie the game 3-3.
After two 10 minute golden goal overtime halves, there was still no change to the score, ending the game in a draw.
Arizona Western will be back at home on Saturday to face Yavapai at Matador Soccer Field at 4:30 p.m.
