Late Goal Ends Lady Mat's Season
|Arizona Western College||0|
DOUGLAS, Ariz---In a game in which the Arizona Western Lady Matadors controlled possession and tempo for most of the match, a brief loss of control resulted in the deciding goal ending their season on a header by the Cochise Apaches Friday afternoon at the Region I Final.
The free-kick near midfield in the 89th minute took a long bounce before finding the head of an Apache forward who redirected it to the back of the net providing the 1-0 finish.
The Matadors had their chances, including a Pau Fierro free-kick from near the sideline that clanged off the cross bar.
But AWC's possession couldn't result in any offense and left them vulnerable to the shocking goal.
The loss concludes the AWC Women's Soccer season for the spring with a quick August turnaround for the 2021-2022 school year.
The Matadors conclude the 2020-2021 season at 3-6-1 overall.
Cochise will play in the district championship May 22nd.
