SALT LAKE CITY, Utah--- The Arizona Western College Women’s Soccer team (11-5-2 overall, 5-3-2 ACCAC) lost in overtime during a close District I Championship game against the Salt Lake Community College Bruins on Saturday.

Now the Lady Matadors will wait until Monday to see if they earn an at-large bid by the NJCAA to compete in the National Championship tournament.

Saturday’s match remained scoreless until the second half when Salt Lake made a goal in the 46th minute to bring the game 0-1.

Diana Sanchez scored the equalizer about four minutes later, with an assist by Jaeda Centeno, to create a tied 1-1 game.

At the final whistle the score remained even, sending the game into overtime. Then, with just four minutes left on the clock, Salt Lake made the ball into the net on a penalty kick to bring the final score 1-2.

The Lady Matadors made four total shots, with two shots on goal, while Salt Lake made 16 shots, 10 of those goal attempts.

Arizona Western goalkeeper Tia Kelk made a total of eight saves during the game.
