YUMA, Ariz. – One down week dropped the Arizona Western women’s soccer team five spots in the latest NJCAA poll. AWC was 19th in the poll that was released earlier this morning.
The Lady Mats went 1-2 last week. They lost 4-2 at third-ranked Phoenix before taking out Scottsdale 2-1 on the road. On Saturday, the Lady Mats lost 1-0 to Paradise Valley in a match where they controlled the game but couldn’t knock in a goal.
AWC (12-3-3 overall, 12-3-3 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference) has two matches left this season. The team currently is third in the league standings and one point behind second-place Pima (wins are worth three points while ties are worth one).
The Lady Mats are headed to Cochise College for an afternoon match at 2:00 p.m. today. They close the regular season at home against Pima on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma. AWC leads the state in enrollment growth over the past 10 years and handed out more than 2,300 certificates and degrees in 2016-17.
