BLYTHE, Calif---A huge first half output allowed the Arizona Western Lady Matadors (1-2) to cruise to their first win of the season with a 94-28 on the road at Palo Verde College Wednesday night.
Fourteen different Matadors scored in a total that nearly exceeded their offense from the first two games. The defense was equally excellent holding Palo Verde to just 11 points in the second half.
Buse Utku scored seven points in the first quarter to spark the Lady Matadors offense while five other Mats registered at least a point.
Eight different Mats scored in the second quarter as AWC broke open the game before half. Kahmille Booker was the only Matador to make multiple field goals in each of the first two quarters as AWC opened up a 45-17 advantage at halftime.
Booker continued the strong performance with six more points in the second half to lead all scorers with 14 points.
Arizona Western will open at home on Friday night with a matchup against Owens (OH) Community College at 5:30pm in the Desert Classic. Games begin at 1:30pm on Friday and the tournament concludes Saturday night.
