YUMA, Ariz. – While the 3 pointer kept the Mats close in the first half, a quartet of 3’s doomed Arizona Western College (7-13, 5-7 ACCAC) in a 78-69 home loss to the Central Arizona Vaqueras (13-6, 9-3 ACCAC) Wednesday.
The Matadors hung tight in the opening quarter thanks to Mone Izumi and Harria Mendoza both hitting a pair of three pointers.
The Lady Mats turned it into a tight contest behind a Vinyet Garcia’s three 3 pointers, all in the second quarter. In all, the Mats shot 53% from deep in the first half and used Raven Robert’s last second three to take a 40-39 point lead at the half.
However, the Vaqueras would answer as Megan Guadian connected on six 3 pointers of her own to support 24 points from Ayanna Clark and Central outscored the Mats 21-11 in the 3rd quarter.
Central has now won 6 games in a row.
The Matadors wrap up the home-stand on Saturday against Tohono O’odham at The House tipping off at 5:30pm.
