WBB: Lady Mats Climb Out of Deficit in Cochise Win

DOUGLAS, Ariz. – A 24-14 halftime deficit seemed daunting until the Arizona Western Lady Matadors (3-6 overall, 3-3 ACCAC) climbed all the way back to an impressive 53-42 road victory over the Cochise Apaches (0-4 overall, 0-3 ACCAC) Saturday afternoon at Cochise College.

Tatjana Tatar had nine of Cochise’s 24 first half points as it was the Apaches stifling defense that had the Matadors flummoxed at the break. Only Mizha Gilberto had multiple field goals in the first half for Arizona Western.

But team basketball and defense leading to offense sparked the Matadors in the second half.

Faith Silva hit a pair of fourth quarter three’s and Teresa Da Silva scored 10 of her team high 13 points in the second half to pull off the Lady Matadors biggest comeback of the season.

The Matadors will continue on the road next week traveling to Central Arizona on Thursday at 5:30pm for a makeup of the January 30th game. The Matadors will hit the road the opposite direction on Friday, taking on Community Christian Friday night at 6:00pm

Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma.
