YUMA, Ariz---A third quarter offensive lull proved costly in the Arizona Western Lady Matadors (12-12 overall, 7-9 ACCAC) 65-62 loss to the Mesa Thunderbirds (16-7 overall, 13-3 ACCAC) at the House Wednesday night.
The Lady Matadors third straight loss began promising once again as Hanah Sims nailed a trio of first half three's to lead the Arizona Western offense.
But Mesa closed the quarter strong and led 15-12 at the end of the first as Jacey Salibaye answered back with a couple of three pointers for the Thunderbirds.
The Lady Mats owned the second quarter as Arianna Pagan led a 18-9 period that put the Matadors in front at the half by seven.
Mesa came right back in the third, as Michelle Corley's three was the only points for AWC throughout the first five minutes of the second half.
The teams matched buckets throughout the fourth but it was Raenesha Willis' three that put Mesa up for good.
Arizona Western will be back on the road over the next contests beginning Saturday afternoon at Chandler-Gilbert. The Women tip things off at 2:00pm.
