Defense helps Matadors win ninth straight, holding off Snow 65-52

TUCSON, AZ – The Arizona Western Matadors (13-1) won their ninth consecutive game, beating Snow College (6-9) 65-52 on Friday afternoon at the Bruce Fleck Classic at Pima Community College.

For the second consecutive game, the Matadors had three players score in double-figures, once again led by Alliance Ndiba who led all scorers with 12 points, finishing one rebound shy of a double-double.

After the Matadors got out to a 14-5 lead to open the game, Snow College cut the Matadors; lead to four at 16-12 early in the second quarter before the Matadors put together a 9-0 run, outscoring the Badgers 19-6 over the last five minutes of the half, taking a 37-18 lead at the break.

Faith Silva scored eight of her 11 points in the second half to help hold off Snow as the Badgers outscored the Matadors 34-28 in the second half.

Christeina Bryan scored 11 points in the win while Taresa Da Silva scored nine points. Buse Utku finished with eight points and Tatiana Gary chipped in with six off the bench.

The Matadors defense forced 25 turnovers, recording 10 steals in the process, winning their 13th game of the season.

The Matadors finish off the Bruce Fleck Classic Saturday morning as they take on Frank Phillips at 11:00 am at Aztec Gymnasium on the campus of Pima Community College.
