Bryan leads Mats to 60-54 win over Frank Phillips

TUCSON, AZ – The Arizona Western Matadors (14-1) erased a six-point third-quarter deficit to beat Frank Phillips (10-6) 60-54 on Saturday afternoon.
Christeina Bryan scored a career-high 19 points in the win as Alliance Ndiba recorded a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds while blocking eight shots in the win.
After a slow start, the Matadors used an 11-2 run to push their lead from 9-6 to 20-8 early in the second quarter. Arizona Western pushed the first-half lead up to 14 before the Plainsmen ended the first half on a 7-0 run to cut the lead in half at 28-21.
Taresa Da Silva scored nine points in the game while Faith Silva added six.
Frank PhIllips continued the run into the second half, taking the lead midway through the quarter, eventually stretching the advantage to six points with 1:21 left in the third quarter.
The Matadors went on a 7-0 run to start the fourth, grabbing a 48-45 lead, outscoring Frank Phillips 19-9 in the fourth going on to win their 10th straight game.
Arizona Western outrebounded the Plainsmen 46-38 and forced 13 turnovers in the win.
The Matadors return to ACCAC play on Wednesday, January 5 when they head to Phoenix to take on Phoenix College at 5:30 pm.
