VB: Texas Two Split, Mats Start 2-2
SNYDER, Texas---A last minute trip mixed in with schedule changes and opponent flip-flops highlighted the Arizona Western Volleyball trip to West Texas and the Matadors came away from it with a pair of wins and plenty of experience.
Saturday’s finale saw the Matadors switch their opponents just an hour before their scheduled start, seeing a powerful Blinn College team for the second consecutive match, and second time in 24 hours.
Blinn, who played the earlier game as well, seemed like they had exercised their mistakes and made the first set a brisk 25-10.
Daniela Jimenez Paz made a dent in the Blinn defense, registering ten kills in the match for AWC, but the Matadors dropped the final two sets 25-17 and 25-8.
The Matadors bounced back immediately to take on Vernon College and put forth a more balanced effort. Jimenez Paz added 11 more kills but was flanked by Naomy Vergez with 9 kills and Anny Montano Hurtado who finished with 8.
Arizona Western pulled out the match in four sets, 25-19, 25-19, 17-25, 25-18 to improve to 2-2 on the trip.
The Lady Matadors are back in action, and on the road, at the Dalton Overstreet Tournament in Prescott, AZ. Yavapai College will live-stream the event as no fans are allowed in attendance. The first match pits AWC against Odessa Thursday Morning.
Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma.
