VB: Mats Push CSI, but Fall in 4

BOX SCORE

PRESCOTT, Ariz---Of all the challenges facing teams and student-athletes during the 2021 seasons is the simple act of playing a regular schedule. With games few and far between, the Arizona Western Matadors (2-6 overall) faced some of the best teams in the country this weekend up at Yavapai College, falling in the finale of the Dalton Overstreet Invitational to Southern Idaho (8-4overall) in four sets Saturday afternoon.

In what turned out to be a neck and neck battle, the Matadors quickly found themselves down a set.

The second set went to 34-32 as the Matadors found themselves in a familiar position of having to extend a set with multiple set-points before coming away with the tying victory.

Arizona Western hung out around in set three before falling by five, and pushed CSI to a 25-23 deciding set.

Tylor Iosua led the way for the Matadors with 14 kills while the back line held tight seeing four players record double-digit digs. Cristina Reyes had 29.

The Matadors have 11 days back home before their next road trip, the conference opener at Eastern Arizona February 17th. The Matadors home opener is February 24 when Yavapai comes to Yuma.
