VB: Mats All Smiles in Tourney Opener

North Las Vegas, NV---A big day from Melissa Garciglia Banuelos paced the Arizona Western Matadors attack in a 3-0 win over Central Wyoming to kick off the CSN Invitational Thursday afternoon.

Garciglia Banuelos hit .400 while tallying 14 kills as the Mats fended off Central Wyoming 25-23 in the opening set.

From there, AWC settled in with five other Matadors registering multiple kills in the match. The Mats grabbed the second set 25-19 before cruising to a match victory in set three, 25-15.

Delaney St. Pierre helped generate offense with 21 assists. Nayeli Vilchez added six kills, 14 assists, and seven digs.

The Matadors started the CSN Invitational with a straight set win to improve their overall record to 6-6 on the season. They turned around to play the hosts from CSN immediately following their opener.

Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma.
