VB: Matadors play two Top-3 Opponents

PRESCOTT, Ariz---Despite battling valiantly and taking three sets in two matches, the Arizona Western Matadors (2-4) fell to the #2 Odessa Wranglers and the #3 Snow Badgers Thursday, the first day of the Dalton Overstreet Invitational at Yavapai College.

Despite an early morning hole, a 25-13 loss in the opening set to Odessa, the Matadors battled back in the second set and evened the match with a 25-22 set win.

Attack errors became too much for AWC and the Matadors couldn't pull out the final two sets, falling 25-20 and 25-6 to conclude the match. Anny Montano led the way for the Matadors with 12 kills.

Arizona Western come out firing in the second match of the day against #3 Snow College.

Daniela Jimenez Paz and Tylor Iosua each had double digit kills and the Mats took set one 25-20. Snow held off AWC in sets two and three, 25-19 and 25-18 respectively.

The fourth set with a classic back and forth battle with AWC finally pulling out a 28-26 set win to force a fifth set against the number three team in the NJCAA.

Despite being tied at 8, Snow pulled away in the deciding set, winning 15-8.

Arizona Western is back in action Friday in Prescott, taking on #6 Utah State Eastern at 2:00pm. The game will be streamed by Yavapai College.
