YUMA, Ariz. – The 2019 season will span at least three states as a young Arizona Western College Matador Volleyball team will look to improve on a solid 21-win season, a year ago.
The campaign begins with the ACCAC Jamboree in Scottsdale, Arizona on August 17th.
The Lady Matadors will spend the following three weekends at tournaments. August 23rd and 24th, the Mats will participate in a two-day tournament Roswell, New Mexico at New Mexico Military Institute. The 23rd will square the Matadors off against Odessa (TX) at 3:00pm and Seward County (KS) at 7:00pm. The tournament concludes on the 24th with matches at 10:00am against Hill College and host NMMI at 4:00pm.
AWC will return to Arizona but remain far from home to end August in Prescott at the Yavapai Tournament on August 30th and 31st. AWC will begin play on the 30th at 9:00am against Laramie County (WY) before turning around to play Snow College (UT) at 1:00pm. It will be an even earlier start on Saturday when the Mats wake up to play Monroe at 8:00am before a long break and a tournament concluding match against Utah State Eastern at 4:00pm
The Lady Matadors first contests in Yuma for the 2019 season come on September 6th and 7th with a pair of 7:00pm starts. Friday the 6th against West Coast Baptist and Saturday the 7th against SAGU American Indian College.
The Lady Matadors wrap up the non-conference schedule with three days in Las Vegas, Nevada at the College of Southern Nevada September 12th through the 14th. AWC starts the tournament on Thursday, the 12th at 5:00pm against Central Wyoming before playing the hosts from Southern Nevada at 7:00pm. The Mats open Friday’s schedule at 9:00am against Salt Lake (UT) before playing Parkland College at 3:00pm. The trip concludes on Saturday against Southern Idaho at 8:00am and Miami-Dade College at Noon.
Prior to Nevada, the Mats open up conference play on a Tuesday with an ACCAC match in Thatcher, Arizona against Eastern Arizona at 7:00pm.
The Lady Matadors remain on the road against Pima in Tucson on Wednesday September 18th.
The home portion of the conference schedule begins with a pair of Friday matches in Yuma, September 20th against Chandler-Gilbert and September 27th against Eastern Arizona.
After a quick trip to Prescott on October 2nd to play Yavapai, the Matadors are back at The House to welcome Scottsdale on Friday, October 4th and Glendale on Wednesday, October 9th.
AWC will make the commute to Phoenix the following two Fridays for matches against South Mountain on October 11th and Phoenix College on October 18th.
The following weekend, October 25th and 26th, the Mats host Yavapai for a pair of matches. Friday night will start at 7:00pm and Saturday afternoon will conclude the season-series against the RoughRiders at 3:00pm.
Sophomore night, the final regular season home match, will be against Mesa on Wednesday, October 30th before the regular season concludes on the road in Thatcher against Eastern Arizona on November 1st.
Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma.
