YUMA, Ariz. – Yolaine Mosquera Lopez filled up the stat sheet last week for the Arizona Western women’s volleyball team. Despite only having one match, the freshman led the attack and was named the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Division I Player of the Week.

Mosquera Lopez piled up a team high 14 kills in a five-set loss at Yavapai College on Friday. The freshman from Colombia added four digs and three blocks during a tight match.

She leads the team with three kills per set overall on the season as part of a versatile attack. Mosquera Lopez is hitting for a strong percentage (0.265) outside as well and has added 41 digs and 13 blocks.

AWC (8-6 overall, 0-2 ACCAC) finally plays at home after spending the first 14 matches on the road. The Lady Mats host Pima on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are only $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and military members with ID. Children 12 and under and AWC students and staff (with current school ID) get in for FREE!

Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma. AWC leads the state in enrollment growth over the past 10 years and handed out more than 2,300 certificates and degrees in 2016-17.
