Pulled Back In

YUMA, Ariz. – After clinching the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference title outright last week, the Arizona Western College volleyball team slipped back into the NJCAA rankings this week. The Lady Mats topped Eastern Arizona in four sets on Friday night to close out the regular season as the top team in the ACCAC. Yeny Montoya Murillo had a monster match with 18 kills and 17 digs, and she was selected to the All-ACCAC First Team over the weekend. Neyshlian Roman Concepcion was named the Libero of the Year, and Lisbeth Rosario Martinez also was an All-ACCAC Honorable Mention.

AWC finished 19-6 overall and 11-2 in the ACCAC. The team has won two straight heading into the Region I Playoffs this weekend. Lorayne Chandler was named the Co-Coach of the Year.

The Lady Mats are the only ACCAC team in the NJCAA Division I Poll. In the Division II poll, South Mountain is sixth, Glendale is eighth and Mesa is 13th.

Friday night, AWC will host the Region I Final at 7:00 p.m. against the winner of Eastern Arizona and Yavapai. No passes will be accepted, and tickets are $5. Arizona Western students can sign in with their ID for FREE at the door!
