Lady Matadors swept at home by Vaqueras, fall to third place in ACCAC
YUMA, Ariz. - For the second time in two days, the Arizona Western Volleyball team fell in four sets to Central Arizona. After winning the first set on Saturday afternoon 25-21, the Lady Matadors dropped the next three (26-24, 26-24 & 25-11). The loss marks four matches in a row for the Lady Matadors (10-7, 4-5) and drops them one game behind Central Arizona (12-7, 4-3) for second place in the ACCAC standings.
"We're just in our third year coming back," Central Arizona Head Coach Michael Owens said. "This was a trip we had circled on our calendars. This is where we found out where we stood against Arizona Western which is a top-notch team with a great head coach in Lorayne Chandler."
Central Arizona came through when it mattered most and fought back to win the second and third sets.
"Nothing is set yet as we still have to travel to Yavapai," Owens said. "We're happy with the result and it's shaping up for us to meet each other in the Region I semi-finals; we'll find out if we'll be home or coming back here."
Both teams face each other in Arizona Western's season finale, at Central Arizona on October 29th. Until then, the Lady Matadors will look to right the ship during their final home match of the season next Friday, October 17th against Phoenix College. It's also sophomore night for Arizona Western. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.at "The House."
