Martensson earns Chapman Student-Athlete of the Week

YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western Lady Matadors Volleyball freshman Gabriela Martensson was named Chapman Automotive Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of September 3-9 after helping the Lady Matadors to a pair of wins, extending their winning streak to six matches.

Martensson started the week with 10 kills in a straight set win over Phoenix College, putting together a .300 hitting percentage. Two nights later Martensson tallied 11 kills in a 3-0 win over South Mountain as the Lady Matadors matched their longest winnings streak of the season at six matches while extending their season-best 16 set winning streak.

For her efforts, Martensson was named ACCAC DI Offensive Player of the Week, becoming the third Lady Matador to earn an ACCAC Player of the Week honor this season.

The outside hitter from Colombia has now recorded double-digit kills in three of the last four matches and has done so 10 times this season.
