Women's Soccer earns third win of the week, beating Southern Nevada 4-0

YUMA, Ariz. - The No. 4 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Women's Soccer team (13-0, 11-0) put together its 11th shutout of the season, extending its winning streak to 13 games with a 4-0 win over College of Southern Nevada (5-7-1, 4-6-1) on Saturday evening in North Las Vegas, Nev., at Cheyenne Sports Complex. 

The Matadors and Coyotes were scoreless for the first 25 minutes before the Matadors opened the scoring thanks to Ana Velasquez who put the Matadors in front with a goal in the 26th minute and then doubled the lead with her second goal of the night in the 43rd minute to put the Matadors up 2-0 entering the break. 

Arizona Western added two more goals in the second half when Fernanda Quiroz and American Chavez teamed up for two goals in the span of three minutes. Quiroz gave the Matadors a 3-0 lead scoring on an assist from Chavez before Chavez added the fourth goal off a pass from Quiroz. 

Iyan Hernandez stopped two shuts to record the shutouts in the win. 

The Matadors return home on Tuesday, October 22, when they host Mohave at 7:00 p.m. at the Matador Soccer Field in the final regular-season game. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
