Five Lady Matadors earn postseason recognition
YUMA, Ariz. – Five Arizona Western Lady Matador Women's Soccer players were honored on Monday as All-ACCAC and All-Region performers after leading the Lady Matadors to an ACCAC title and a 13-win season.
Ashly Martinez and Rikako Hayami were both named First Team All-ACCAC while both Wendy Jimenez and Risui Arasaki garnered Second Team All-ACCAC honors and Tindra Biedermann was named Honorable Mention All-ACCAC.
Martinez earned a spot on the All-ACCAC First Team after leading the ACCAC in goals, scoring 24 goals, and second in the conference in points with 53. The sophomore forward put together a pair of four-goal games, scoring four times against South Mountain on September 19 before doing so again in the final regular season game of the year against Paradise Valley on October 17.
Hayami was named First Team All-ACCAC after anchoring a back line for the Lady Matadors that posted 10 shutouts this season including nine coming in league play. Hayami set a career-high with four goals this season while recording an assist. The sophomore defender scored her first career goal in a 9-0 win over Chandler-Gilbert on September 2.
Jimenez was a Second Team All-ACCAC honoree thanks to a sophomore season in which she scored a career-high 10 goals and scored six goals in the last seven games of the season. Jimenez also tallied eight assists and put together a pair of two-assist games.
Arasaki was named All-ACCAC Second Team in her freshman season, scoring 13 goals and tallying 10 assists. Arasaki scored a season-high four goals in a 17-0 win over Mesa back on September 5 and set a season-high with two assists against Glendale on September 12.
Bidermann earned All-ACCAC Honorable Mention recognition after making 13 saves this season and posting a 0.61 goals against average in eight games. Bidermann made a season-high five saves in a 6-0 win over Pima on October 10.
The Lady Matadors will be back in action on Saturday, October 28, hosting Eastern Arizona in the Region I final at Matador Soccer Field at 4:30 pm.
