Matador basketball teams to honor local educators this afternoon
Admission is waived for local educators with special honors planned for halftimes
YUMA, Ariz. - Themed basketball games continue at Arizona Western College with Matador athletics shining the light on educators this Saturday afternoon. All educators, past and present, local or from out of town, will be granted free admission to both the women's basketball game and the men's basketball games today versus Cochise College.
"All you have to do is come to the door and tell us you are a teacher," Arizona Western Sports Information Director Scott Gross said. "You'll be let right in and given a few gifts as a token of our appreciation."
Besides giveaways for educators and all fans who attend, Arizona Western College will recognize a few professors during each halftime as well as honor those in attendance.
"Some of our athletes nominated professors that have made a big impact for them," Gross said. "It's a way to say thank you and also give our educators a top of the cap or back on the back for a job well done. A lot of times our educators don't get much of that."
The women's basketball game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 4:00 p.m. versus Cochise College. Both games can also be seen live on the Matador Sports Stream.
