Women's Basketball finishes off perfect weekend in Thatcher with 94-55 win over Trinidad State
YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Women's Basketball team (3-0) capped off a perfect weekend with a 94-55 win over Trinidad State (0-5) to win its third consecutive game to open the season on Saturday afternoon in Thatcher, Ariz., at Guitteau Gym.
Iria Briones set a season-high with 25 points off the bench, hitting five three-pointers and the win while grabbing five rebounds. As a team, the Matadors set a season-high of 15 made three-pointers, going 15-for-32 from distance.
For a third straight game, the Matadors produced their highest offensive output in the third quarter, coming out of the halftime break scoring 27 points, outscoring the Trojans 27-7 in the third quarter to pull away from Trinidad State.
The Matadors had five players in double-figures with Rita Gomes finishing as the Matadors' second-leading scorer with 16 points and Mable Doumbia recording 13 points in the win.
Sophomore Dyvine Harris had 12 points and nine assists in the win and Naomy Zanzon-Huyghe finished the game with 10 points.
The Matadors are back on the road on Friday, November 15, taking on No. 10 ranked Casper at 5:00 pm in Casper, Wyo., at Swede Erickson Thunderbird Gym.
