Ayson, Okada combine for 30 points in 55-48 loss to Eastern Arizona

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors' Women's Basketball team (18-8, 11-9) dropped its second consecutive game, losing 55-48 to Eastern Arizona (25-1, 18-1) on Saturday at the House Gymnasium.

Kristol Ayson led the Lady Matadors with 18 points while Lime Okada added 12 points, combining for 30 of the Lady Matadors' 48 points.

The Lady Matadors fell behind early when Eastern Arizona opened up a 9-4 lead before Maddison Zugna hit a three-pointer to pull the Lady Matadors to within two at 9-7. Eastern Arizona took an 18-15 lead into the second quarter but Ayson was able to cut the deficit to one point at 20-19 with a pair of free throws. The Gila Monsters hit a three right before the halftime buzzer to take a 29-23 lead into the locker room.  

Zugna finished the game with seven points as did Rosa Revueltas, hitting a pair of three-pointers in the loss.

Eastern Arizona opened up an 11-point lead late in the third quarter but the Lady Matadors' 14-3 run to tie the game at 45-45 with two minutes to play in the game. The Gila Monsters were able to fend off the Lady Matadors, outscoring Arizona Western 10-3 in the final minutes of the game.

The Lady Matadors hit the road on Wednesday, February 22 when they head to Prescott, Ariz. for a matchup with Yavapai at 7:30 pm.
