Women's Basketball rolls to 71-33 win over Central Arizona
YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Basketball team (17-6, 10-6) rolled to their fourth consecutive win, beating Central Arizona (13-12, 8-8) 71-33 on Wednesday night at the House Gymnasium.
Maddison Zugna led all scorers, scoring 19 points while Kristol Ayson finished with 17 points, scoring 14 in the second half to lead the Lady Matadors.
After the Vaqueras scored the first three points of the game, the Lady Matadors outscored Central Arizona 17-1 over the next nine minutes and held Central Arizona to just four first-quarter points. The Lady Matadors opened up a 30-6 lead in the second quarter thanks to four straight points from both Zugna and Chenai Mushore. The Lady Matadors held Central Arizona to just 10 percent shooting in the first half and took a 30-11 lead into the locker room.
Arizona Western put together a 21-0 run between both the third and fourth quarters to put the game out of reach in the second half. The Lady Matadors built their largest lead of the game of 39 points at the 4:23 mark of the fourth quarter.
Lime Okada tied a career-high with 14 points and Mushore finished as the Lady Matadors' fourth-leading scorer with 11 points.
The Lady Matadors are back at home on Saturday, February 11, hosting Chandler-Gilbert at 4:00 pm. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors (65 and over) and military. Arizona Western students and employees receive free admission with their AWC ID.
