Ayson records double-double in 70-40 win over Dream City

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Basketball team (8-0) finished off the Chapman Automotive Thanksgiving Classic with a 70-40 win over Dream City Christian on Saturday evening at the House Gymnasium.

Kristol Ayson led all scorers, finishing the game with 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to record the double-double. Ayson was one of three Lady Matadors to finish the game in double figures.

Dream City Christian ran out to an early lead before the Lady Matadors used six first-quarter points from Ayson to go on a run and outscore Dream City 19-17 in the first quarter.

Arizona Western opened the second quarter on a 13-0 run, outscoring the Eagles 13-3, giving the Lady Matadors a 32-20 halftime advantage.

The Lady Matadors scored just 10 points in the third quarter as Dream City Christian cut the Matadors' lead to 42-34, outscoring Arizona Western 14-10. The Lady Matadors opened the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run, forcing a Dream City timeout after a Greta Carollo jumper. The Lady Matadors pulled away, outscoring Dream City 28-6 to finish the game off.

Carollo ended the night as one of two Lady Matadors who scored 12 points while Maddison Zugna also finished the game with 12.

Arizona Western gets back into ACCAC play on Wednesday, November 30, when they travel to Douglas, Ariz. to take on Cochise at 7:30 pm
