Smith and Trejo earn 2026 NFCA NJCAA Division I All-Region honors

Lady Matadors land two players on NFCA All-West Region First Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Seventy-five student-athletes from 36 programs earned 2026 NFCA NJCAA Division I All-Region honors, the NFCA revealed on Monday afternoon.

Arizona Western lands two players on the All-West Region First Team with sophomores Jessica Smith and Analy Trejo. Smith was named Region I / Western District MVP after helping the Lady Matadors secure their second straight appearance in the NJCAA DI Softball World Series. The sophomore pitcher won two games and nailed down a save as Arizona Western went through the playoffs undefeated (3-0). Smith pitched 15 innings, allowed five earned runs, struck out 15 batters with two complete games and a save. Smith also led the ACCAC in ERA 1.08, tied for second in wins (18) and fnished fourth in strikeouts (147). Trejo led the Lady Matadors in almost every offensive category including runs (62), hits (76), doubles (20), triples (2), HR (15), RBI (70), walks (26), BA (.481) and slugging % (.918). Trejo also finished ACCAC play in the top three categories of Batting average, HR & RBI. Trejo heads to the national tournament next week in Oxford, Alabama currently sporting a nine-game hit streak.

The South Region's Northeast Alabama Community College and Northwest Florida State College, along with the West's McLennan Community College and Midland College led the way with five All-Region selections. McLennan and Eastern Florida State College (South) boasted an NJCAA DI-best four first-teamers. Northeast Alabama had two on the first team, while NWF and Midland each had one.

Eastern Florida was joined by the Midwest trio of Grayson College, Temple College and Trinity Valley Community College with four accolades. Trinity Valley had three student-athletes on the first team, while Grayson had two and Temple one.

All three of Paris Junior College's (Midwest) recipients were on the first team with the duo of Arizona Western College (West) and Chipola College (South) having both their players take home first-team plaudits.

Joining Paris JC with a trio of All-Region selections are Florida SouthWestern State College (South) and Three Rivers College (Midwest). FSW had two on the first team and Three Rivers had one.

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's three regions with first and second-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated their student-athletes and voted for the teams. All the honorees are now eligible for selection to the 2026 NFCA NJCAA Division I All-America squads.

The 2026 NFCA NJCAA Division I All-America teams will be announced on Tuesday, June 2.
