Matadors' offense held quiet in Softball World Series opening 4-0 loss to Southern Union State

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Softball team dropped their opening game of the 2025 NJCAA DI Softball World Series 4-0 to Southern Union State at the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex on Monday afternoon.

Matadors' starter Lili Vigil German allowed four runs, two earned, in six innings of work while striking out a batter in the loss.

Southern Union State opened the scoring with a run in the third inning and doubled its lead with a run in the fourth inning. The Lady Bison tacked on a third run in the fifth inning.

The Matadors were held hitless until the top of the sixth inning when Rauni Gallegos grounded a single back up the middle to give the Matadors their first hit of the game, trailing 3-0.

Southern Union State added an insurance run in the sixth inning and held on to beat the Matadors 4-0 as Arizona Western was held to one hit in the loss.

The Matadors will be back in action on Tuesday, May 20, taking on the loser of Grayson vs Navarro at 3:30 pm in an elimination game on Field 1 at the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex.
