Softball drops pair of one-run games to Southern Nevada
YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Softball team (24-17, 10-12) dropped a pair of one-run games in a doubleheader with College of Southern Nevada (22-17, 14-8) on Friday afternoon at Lady Coyotes Softball Stadium in Henderson, Nev., losing 4-3 and 3-2.
Rauni Gallegos drove in two of the Matadors' three runs, and Natalie Pinon went 2-for-3 in the Matadors' game one loss.
The Matadors scored first in the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead on a Coyotes' error before Southern Nevada scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-1 lead.
Gallegos pulled the Matadors to within a run with a two-run double in the seventh inning, but was stranded on base, representing the tying run in the loss.
Gallegos led the Matadors in game two with a pair of hits, including a triple, while Analy Trejo and Nadya Moreno each drove in a run in the 3-2 loss.
Like in the opener, Southern Nevada scored all their runs in one inning, scoring three runs in the first to grab a 3-0 lead.
The Matadors grabbed their first run in the third inning on a Moreno RBI single and cut the deficit to one run with a run-scoring sacrifice in the sixth inning.
The series will conclude on Saturday, April 19, as the Matadors take on College of Southern Nevada in a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 am in Henderson, Nev., at Lady Coyotes Softball Field.
