YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western Softball freshman Jessie Garcia was honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, naming her a First Team All-Region honoree in the West Region as Utility/Pitcher.

Garcia pitched in 27 games, making 26 starts, for the Lady Matadors, leading the team with 11 wins. The right-hander from Rio Rancho, N.M., tossed 130.1 innings and struck out 99 batters, posting an 11-13 record with a 3.06 ERA.

Garcia struck out a season-high 11 batters in an 8-0 win at GateWay on April 6 and finished the season by earning her first save of the season on May 6 in a 5-2 win over Mesa, tossing three scoreless innings without surrendering a hit.

At the plate, Garcia batted .409 in 60 games, smacking 15 doubles and 15 home runs while driving in 59 runs. Garcia put together a pair of two-homer games and drove in a season-high six batters in a 16-4 win over Mesa on March 23.
