YUMA, Ariz. – After helping Arizona Western College Softball to a six-win week, both Emily Gamboa and Jessie Garcia earned ACCAC Player of the Week honors for the week of April 2-8.

Gamboa was named the ACCAC DI Pitcher of the Week after striking out 15 batters in 18 innings of work, earning three wins in the circle. The freshman from Calipatria, Calif., tossed four shutout innings in a 25-2 win at Yavapai on April 4.

Garcia was named the ACCAC DI Position Player of the Week after driving in 14 runs in six games. Garcia smacked four home runs and homered twice while driving in four runs in an 8-0 win over GateWay on April 6. The freshman from Rio Rancho, N.M., doubled four times and scored six runs in the six games last week.  

The ACCAC Player of the Week honor was the first of the season for Gamboa while Garcia earned her second honor.
