YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western Matadors Softball (5-15, 4-4) bounced back after losing game one of a doubleheader to Paradise Valley (3-6, 3-6) 10-7 to earn a split with a 17-10 win in game two on Saturday afternoon in Phoenix.  

The Lady Matadors got off to a good start in game one, scoring two runs in the first inning but Paradise Valley used a seven-run second inning to take the commanding lead.

Tinley Schmidgall homered in the loss while Valarie Joaquin picked up three hits, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in.

Desiree Moran drove in a run, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and Emily Gamboa allowed just one earned run in 4.2 innings of relief.

Arizona Western got the bats going in the second game, scoring 17 runs on 22 hits to earn the doubleheader split.

The Lady Matadors put together three four-run innings, scoring four runs in the second, third, and seventh innings.

Moran was one of two Lady Matadors to go 4-for-5 while driving in a pair of runs. Jessie Garcia drove in four runs in the win, going 4-for-5 as well.

GiGi Garcia homered in the win while MacKenzie Barney went 3-for-5 and knocked in three runs in the win. Gamboa finished the game off with three scoreless innings to earn the win.

The Lady Matadors are back on the road on Tuesday, heading to Tucson, Ariz., to take on the Pima Aztecs in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
