YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western Lady Matadors Softball player Jessie Garcia was named the Chapman Automotive Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of February 12-18.

Garcia helped the Lady Matadors to a doubleheader sweep of Yavapai over the weekend, not only picking up a win in the circle but also driving in a pair of runs at the plate.

The freshman from Rio Rancho, N.M. started game one of the ACCAC doubleheader on Saturday, February 18, allowing just one earned run on three hits over five innings, striking out four batters in a complete game win.

At the plate, Garcia went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run in the two games, driving in a run in each game. Garcia doubled in a run in a 10-2 win in game one before homering and scoring two runs in game two, a 9-0 win over the Roughriders.
