YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Softball team (4-12, 3-1) outscored Yavapai (1-6, 1-6) 19-2 in a doubleheader sweep of the Roughriders, winning game one 10-2 and taking game two 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at Charlie Dine Softball Field.

Jessie Garcia threw a complete game in game one, allowing just two runs on five hits and striking out four batters to earn the win.

The Lady Matadors got off to a quick start batting 12 times in the first inning and scoring six runs on four hits, including RBI doubles from Desiree Moran and Abigail Ibarra.

Arizona Western scored four more runs in the third inning before Yavapai scored two runs in the fourth.

Moran went 2-for-2 with a double and a walk in the win while Ibarra collected a pair of doubles, going 2-for-3.

Just like Jessie Garcia in game one, Elisa Garcia shutdown the Roughriders in game two, holding Yavapai scoreless on just one hit in a 9-0 win.

The Lady Matadors scored two runs in the first inning thanks to a two-run double from Mollie Forbes who finished the game 2-for-3 with four runs batted in.

Arizona Western sent nine batters to the plate in the third inning, scoring six runs in an inning for the second time in the doubleheader. Forbes drove in two runs with a single while Natalie Gonzalez singled in a pair as well. The Lady Matadors added one more run in the fourth on Jessie Garcia home run.

The Lady Matadors are at home on Tuesday, hosting Eastern Arizona in a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 am at Charlie Dine Softball Field.
