Meet the Matadors: Noah Naus

By Sofia Puga

Ever since he was three years old and growing up in the Netherlands, Noah Naus has been making plays on the soccer field. He finds it relaxing despite the intensity of it.

"I've been playing for 19 years now," Noah Naus said. "I can't imagine doing anything else to be honest."

During his freshman season at Arizona Western College, Naus appeared in seven games for the Matadors men's soccer team, he started two of them and scored a total of four goals.

"I'm supposed to be the guy that scores," Naus said. "So far I have played seven games with four goals, so that's relatively productive."

Naus says his current pregame rituals include listening to music and eating a banana.

Noah found his way to Arizona Western by way of his talent agency creating a highlight video and player profile for him.

Noah says ten schools reached out to him during the recruiting process including Arizona Western.

"For me, the match with AWC was the best because they were ranked super high in the junior college division," Naus said. "They were ranked number six, which means that there's only five schools better, and the chance of getting into one of those is zero to little, so I was really happy to get the chance to come and play here."

During the offseason comes an easier schedule. When Noah is not in class or at the gym, he indulges in his hobbies, which include playing video games (specifically FIFA on the Xbox), and watching movies or YouTube.

"Right now I'm starting the Harry Potter movies again," Naus said. "I watch them every six months."

Noah also sings and plays guitar. He started taking guitar lessons just a few years ago.

Noah's major is Sports Management major, with plans to pursue a career in anything that relates to sports. At 22 years old, he doesn't see himself becoming a professional soccer player but if the opportunity presents itself, he's open to the idea.

Noah and the Matadors men's soccer team are currently working through their spring exhibition season with five games scheduled through mid-April before the next season gets underway next fall.
