Former Matador Michael Appiah selected by Inter Miami CF in the 2025 Major League Soccer SuperDraft
YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western Matadors Men's Soccer alum Michael Appiah was selected in the third round of the 2024 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by Inter Miami CF after finishing his collegiate career at Florida International University.
Appiah led the Matadors to the program's first-ever NJCAA DI Men's Soccer Championship Final in 2021, playing in 33 career games over the course of two seasons for Arizona Western. Appiah made his Arizona Western debut during the spring 2021 COVID season, appearing in 11 games for the Matadors, scoring a pair of goals and recording four assists. Appiah scored his first career goal in the Matadors' 3-0 win over Phoenix on April 10 before scoring as a substitute in a 9-0 win over GateWay on April 24.
In the Fall 2021 season, Appiah was tied for third on the team in goals with nine, helping the Matadors win 21 games and a Region I title, leading to the program's second-ever appearance in the NJCAA DI Men's Soccer Championship. Appiah scored a goal in the Matadors' 3-0 win over LSU-Eunice in the first game of pool play. Following the season, Appiah was honored as an NJCAA DI Men's Soccer All-American.
Following his two-year stay in Yuma, Appiah transferred to Multnomah University where he scored 17 goals in 18 games, being named an NAIA All-American as a sophomore. Upon the closure of Multnomah University, Appiah transferred to the NCAA DI level, signing with Florida International where the Ghana native played in 21 games, scoring four goals, including a goal in a 3-1 win over Memphis in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) semifinals.
