YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 4 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Men's Soccer team (10-1-1) pushed its winning streak to six games and undefeated stretch to 10 games with a 5-1 win over Justice College on Saturday night at Matador Soccer Field.
The Matadors scored the game's first goal in the seventh minute when Justin Vallelian jumped on a ball inside the six-yard box and beat the keeper to put the Matadors in front 1-0.
Vallelian's goal was the lone goal in the first half as the Matadors added their second goal of the game in the 46th minute thanks to Hiromasa Iwai who beat the keeper on the doorstop off a feed from Iman Ouedraogo Jr. to double the lead at 2-0. It was Ouedraogo who added the Matadors' third from the penalty spot to extend the lead to 3-0 in the 49th minute.
The Matadors put their fourth goal on the board in the 73rd minute when Shuto Sano buried a strike from outside the 18-yard box off a pass from Aiki Saodoka to up the advantage to 4-0. After Justice College scored its lone goal of the game in the 74th minute, Juriel Nereida capped the scoring with a goal in the 79th to give the Matadors the 5-1 lead.
The Matadors are on the road on Tuesday, October 17, heading to California to take on Community Christian in an ACCAC matchup at 4:30 pm.
