Arizona Western meets USC Sumter in "Mascot Challenge" Sweet 16
Voting begins at 1:00pm MST and stays open for 24 hours
YUMA, Ariz. - This afternoon, Arizona Western College faces off against USC Sumter in the Fourth Round (Sweet 16) of the NJCAA Mascot Bracket Challenge. Matador Nation faced a tough challenge in Round Three from the Ironhawks of Minnesota North - Vermillion but pulled away in the end to secure a 54-46 win. Voting takes place on the NJCAA X/Twitter and on the NJCAA Instagram Story. Each matchup gets a 24-hour voting window, and the votes across both social media platforms are totaled together to determine the winner. The Matadors square off against the Fire Ants of the University of South Carolina - Sumter, in the final matchup in the round of 16.
A total of 82 teams started the Mascot Challenge, Arizona Western College drew a first-round bye, then defeated Essex County 62-38 in Round Two, followed by the Round Three win over Minnesota North - Vermillion. Of the final 16 teams remaining, three are from the ACCAC, Arizona Western College, Mesa Community College and Gateway Community College. The Round of 16 lasts from February 16-19th, Arizona Western is the final matchup, voting opens at 1:00 pm MST this afternoon.
