Matadors power past Glendale to finish off seven game road trip
GLENDALE, Ariz. – Arizona Western College men's basketball (5-2) unleashed its most prolific offensive performance of the season, rolling past Glendale Community College 107-73 on Thursday night. The Matadors set the tone early, built a 17-point halftime lead and never looked back to secure their fifth win with an emphatic statement on the road.
Arizona Western dominated from the opening tip, quickly pacing the game with crisp ball movement, fast-break execution and relentless energy on the glass. By halftime, the Matadors had constructed a 52-35 advantage, sparked by a decisive run that left Glendale chasing the rest of the contest. The second half proved even more one-sided, as Arizona Western's offense erupted for 55 points and the team broke the century mark with minutes to spare, displaying their depth and focus until the final buzzer.
Shooting nearly 60 percent from the field and handing out 19 assists, the Matadors showcased an unselfish, balanced attack. Ten different players contributed to the scoring column, including five in double figures, as Arizona Western overwhelmed Glendale with both firepower and teamwork. The Matadors also owned the boards, pulling down 60 rebounds to limit second-chance opportunities and fuel transition points.
Boubacar Diatta led the scoring barrage with 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting, also posting three assists in 22 high-impact minutes. Paora Winitana delivered a stellar double-double, tallying 17 points, 14 rebounds and a team-high five assists to anchor the interior and spark fast breaks throughout the game. With the win, the Matadors reached a milestone, 100 team wins over the past four years.
"Super grateful and humble," Arizona Western head coach Kyle Issacs said. "I just try to stay out of the way and guide them in the right direction and get them to play as hard as I can."
The win in Glendale also ended the Matadors seven game road trip to start the season in which Arizona Western finished 5-2.
"It was difficult and just kind of the way it worked out," Isaacs said. "The last two, three years we've started at Eastern (Arizona) and then the rotation of Snow (College) and Southern Utah, thank goodness, now this next year is our turn to host it after three turns at all the other schools. It's hard when we are isolated here on the west coast."

The Matadors return home to face Palo Verde College on Monday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m.
"We can't wait," Isaacs said. "We've got a great home crowd, great winter visitors, great students and a great band. Excited for the opportunity we have at home against kind of a local in proximity school."
