Men's Basketball sophomore Edwin Suarez earns ACCAC DI Player of the Year honors
YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western Matadors Men's Basketball sophomore Edwin Suarez was named the ACCAC DI Player of the Year after leading the Matadors in scoring and rebounds and finishing in a tie for the conference's leading rebounder.
Suarez averaged 13.2 points per game during the regular season and averaged 8.7 rebounds per game, which led the team and was tied for the most rebounds per game in the conference.
The forward from Reading, Pa., scored a career-high 25 points in a win over AZ Sol back on Nov. 12 and scored 20+ points in six games this season while grabbing double-digit rebounds in 10 games this season, hauling in a career-high 15 boards in a win over Southern Nevada on January 11.
In addition to ACCAC DI Player of the Year honors, Suarez was named an All-ACCAC DI First Team honoree and was an All-Region First Team selection.
Suarez, named an All-ACCAC Second Team honoree last season, grabbed 252 total rebounds in 29 games, finishing second in the conference, and grabbed 98 offensive rebounds, second only to teammate Kaleb Myers, who had 101.
Suarez becomes the third Arizona Western Matador Men's Basketball Player to win ACCAC Player of the Years honors in the last four seasons, joining Yaxel Lendeborg and AJ Marmolejos to win conference player of the year honors in the Kyle Isaacs era.
