AWC Cheer team to host mini Matador clinic
YUMA, Ariz. - The Arizona Western Cheer team is holding a mini-Matador camp on Friday, January 23rd, for local students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
"We're ready to teach them a little dance, a cheer and some stunting," AWC Cheer head coach Bailee McCash said. "Then on Saturday, the kids will perform with the Arizona Western Cheer team at halftime during the men's basketball game on January 24th."
McCash says she's done many cheer camps in the past and feels this is a good way for young kids to see and learn firsthand what being a part of a cheer team is all about.
"We'll start with just one day and teach them a small routine," McCash said. "Eventually I'd like to build it up to do a multiple day camp."
Coach McCash will lead the minicamp with the help of members from her cheer team.
"The cheer team members will do a lot of the coaching," McCash said. "I feel it's really important the kids get that one on one with AWC Cheer team."
The kids who attend the camp will be split into different groups based on age during the camp. Each will perform with their group the next day on Saturday, January 24th, at halftime during the Arizona Western men's basketball game versus Eastern Arizona.
