Bio

Coach Keehn enters his 12thseason as Head Baseball Coach at Arizona Western College. In his 11 seasons in charge, Keehn’s teams have averaged 34.5 wins per season and have captured two Region 1 championships.

Keehn came to Arizona Western in 2011 and spent one season as an assistant at AWC before taking over for John Stratton in 2012. He was immediately named the ACCAC Coach of the Year in that 2012 season after leading the Matadors to the Region I playoffs.

Keehn led the Matadors to back-to-back Region 1 championships in 2017 and 2018, recording a team program record 49 wins in 2018, winning the Region 1 title in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1995 and 96 seasons. The 2018 season saw third baseman Sean Roby named the ACCAC Player of the Year, and had Roby get drafted in the 12th round by the San Francisco Giants. The success in 2018 came on the heels of a strong finish in 2017 that saw the Mats claim their first Region I Title since 1996. The 2017 team hosted the West District Playoffs for the first time in team history, and Keehn led the team to more than 40 wins for the first time in 20 years as the Mats went 43-22.

Keehn started his collegiate coaching career in 2004 as an assistant at Odessa Junior College before moving to Central Arizona College (where he played) to work as the team’s recruiting coordinator and pitching coach from 2005 through 2007. Keehn’s final recruiting class finished 3rd in Grand Junction in 2008. During the summer Coach Keehn honed his craft by leading the pitching staff under Steve Abney for the Brainard Blue Thunder in the Northwoods League in 2005 and as head coach of the Liberal Bee Jays in 2006 & 2007 with an NBC appearance in 2006. Afterward, Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California hired Coach Keehn from 2007-2010. Keehn oversaw a Lions’ pitching staff that placed at the top of the conference in ERA and fewest walks allowed in 2009 and that helped lead the Lions to a 2nd place finish in the West Coast Conference Championship Series.

Keehn played at Central Arizona College from 1992-94. Drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the ’93 Major League Baseball draft. Keehn spent three years in the Rockies’ organization and worked his way up to Class A-Asheville.

A native of Wyandotte, Michigan, Keehn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science at the University of Arizona and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Phoenix. He and his wife Aybuke have three children, Nisa, Ozan, and Aslan.
