SWEEP! Matadors Baseball takes two from rival Yavapai on the road

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - The Arizona Western Matadors Baseball team (22-3, 6-2) swept an ACCAC doubleheader against the Yavapai Roughriders on Friday afternoon, winning a wild 15-13 slugfest in game one before taking the second game 10-2. The two wins extend the Matadors' winning streak to eight games.

GAME ONE

The Matadors' offense came out firing in the opener. Parker Husu ignited the scoring with a leadoff home run in the first inning. Arizona Western put up four runs in the first and exploded for six more in the second, highlighted by a two-run triple from Elias Huber, to build a commanding 10-0 lead.

Yavapai fought back, scoring nine runs between the third and fifth innings to cut the deficit to 13-9. Despite the comeback attempt, the Matadors held on for the win. Gerardo Castro had a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Huber finished with a team-high four RBIs, and Husu crossed the plate four times.

GAME TWO

In the second game, the Matadors broke a close contest open late. Leading 3-2 in the seventh inning, Arizona Western erupted for seven runs to put the game away. Ten Shindo provided an earlier spark with a solo home run (3) in the fifth inning and finished the game with three runs scored. Husu led the offense with three hits and two RBIs.

On the mound, starter Thijs Helms (3-1) delivered a masterful performance in the nightcap. He pitched a complete seven-inning game, allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out six batters to secure the victory and the doubleheader sweep for the Matadors.
